Curtis McGrath OAM is a former Australian Army Combat Engineer who lost both of his legs after standing on an improvised explosive device while on tour in Afghanistan. Two years after horrific incident, Curtis became a para-athlete in sprint canoeing and has gone on to dominate the sport gaining gold medals at the Paracanoe World Championships, Invictus Games and took out the gold medal for the 200m KL2 Paracanoe event at the 2016 Rio De Janeiro Paralympic Games in Brazil where he was the first Australian to win gold in the paracanoe event. Curtis was also awarded an Order Of Australia by the Governor General of Australia for his service to sport as a gold medalist at the Rio Paralympic games in 2016. Curtis is currently still in training for the 2021 Toyko Paralympic Games in Brazil, where he will be defending his title as Paralympic Champion in the 200ml KL2 Paracanoe event.
